Skills recruiters look at

  • Written French: letters, minutes, e-mails to customers and banks. On Chghol, almost every offer is written in French; see our guide to languages and jobs to place and prove your level.
  • Administrative Arabic: for dealings with administrations, the tax office, the CNAS and the courts.
  • English: requested mainly for executive posts, export, oil and foreign subsidiaries.
  • Office software: Word (layout, mail merge), Excel (tables, filters, pivot tables), Outlook (shared diary); often an ERP or sales management software.
  • Organisation: prioritising, chasing, meeting deadlines, finding a document in a minute.
  • Discretion: you see salaries, contracts, disputes and management’s plans.

The rules you will apply

  • The employee’s duty of secrecy: among the worker’s obligations, law 90-11 (art. 7) provides for not disclosing the employer’s professional information and internal documents, unless the law or management requires it.
  • Personal data: staff files, CVs received and customer files are data protected by law no. 18-07 of 10 June 2018; they are not passed on or kept longer than needed, and the supervisory authority is the ANPDP.
  • Mandatory records: the staff register is one of the mandatory books set by executive decree no. 96-98 of 6 March 1996; the assistant often keeps it up to date with HR.
  • Social security: every new employee must be declared to the CNAS within 10 days (law no. 83-14 of 2 July 1983); in SMEs, the assistant often prepares the file.

Getting hired in 5 steps

  1. 1

    Choose a training path

A vocational BT or BTS in secretarial work, office IT or executive assistance (exact titles on takwin.dz), or a bachelor’s in management, commerce, law or languages. Evening classes let you train while working.

  2. 2

    Prove your office skills

Write what you can do, not just « computer literate »: « follow-up of 40 orders a week in Excel », « diary of three directors in Outlook », « mail merge of 500 letters ».

  3. 3

    Polish the application

For this job, the CV and letter are already a test: no typos, clean layout, a properly named file. See our guide to the cover letter.

  4. 4

Prepare the interview and the test

Many employers ask you to write a letter, minutes or an Excel table on site. Practise, and read our interview questions.

  5. 5

    Set an alert

A Chghol alert « administrative assistant + your wilaya » tells you as soon as an offer is published: with 65 different employers, offers appear everywhere.

Career path

The job is an excellent way into a company. From administrative assistant, people move to executive assistant, office manager, head of general services, even director of general administration (one such post was published on Chghol on 3 November 2026). Three bridges are natural: human resources (48 HR officer offers on Chghol the same day), purchasing (39 buyer offers) and sales administration, which leads to sales.

Pay

None of the 65 offers published on Chghol on 3 November 2026 showed a salary. The level depends mostly on the post (a CEO’s assistant is not paid like a beginner administrative assistant), the company’s size and the wilaya. The administrative assistant salaries page helps you place yourself; at interview, always talk in net monthly terms.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an administrative assistant and an executive assistant?

The administrative assistant keeps a department’s files moving; the executive assistant works for a manager: diary, meetings, travel, confidential files. The second usually requires more experience and better languages.

Do I need English?

Not always. Written French is essential almost everywhere; English is mostly requested for executive posts, export, oil and subsidiaries of foreign groups.

Which diploma to start?

A vocational BT or BTS in secretarial work or office IT is often enough for a first post; a bachelor’s opens executive assistant and sales administration posts faster.

What is ADV?

Sales administration: everything between the order and the payment — quote, purchase order, delivery, invoice, reminder. It is an assistant post facing customers.

Can I talk about company documents outside?

No. Law 90-11 (art. 7) makes non-disclosure of internal information and documents an employee obligation, and the personal data you handle is protected by law no. 18-07.

How do I progress?

Towards executive assistant, office manager, general services or general administration; or towards HR, purchasing and sales administration, which are hiring too.
