In every wilaya, roughly one offer in seven on Chghol is looking for a sales representative. Consumer-goods distribution, equipment, services, banking and insurance, real estate, digital platforms: every company that sells needs someone to find customers, convince them and keep them. It is also an open job: many employers hire on personality and results more than on a specific degree. This guide starts from the offers published on Chghol to describe the posts, the expectations, the pay and how to get in.

Pay: fixed, variable, expenses
Most posts combine a fixed salary and a variable part: target bonuses, commissions on turnover or margin, team bonuses. Under the law, these productivity and results bonuses are part of the salary (law no. 90-11, art. 81): they appear on the payslip and are subject to CNAS contributions and IRG income tax. Travel expenses (fuel, meals, accommodation on tours), on the other hand, are reimbursements, separate from the salary. None of the sales offers published on Chghol on 2 November 2026 showed a salary: the sales representative salaries page and our guide to negotiating your salary help you place yourself.
- 1
Ask for the gross and net fixed pay
The fixed part is what you get even in a bad month. Ask whether the figure is gross or net.
- 2
Get the variable calculation in writing
Basis (turnover, margin, number of customers), rate or scale, targets, period (month, quarter), payment date. A variable « at the manager’s discretion » is not a commitment.
- 3
Check that targets are achievable
Ask what share of the team meets its targets and which territory you will work (new or already developed).
- 4
Clarify vehicle and expenses
Company or personal car, fuel, phone, meals on tour: who pays, how, against which receipts.
- 5
Read the payslip
Bonuses and commissions should appear on separate lines. See our guide to overtime, bonuses and allowances.
Skills that make the difference
- A category B driving licence, often essential for a field post.
- Languages: spoken French and Arabic, darija with shopkeepers; English for some key-account or import posts.
- Organisation: planning your tours, tracking customers in a file or customer relationship management software.
- Tools: Excel, invoicing or sales management software, business e-mail, social networks for prospecting.
- Negotiation and follow-up: knowing how to close, and also how to chase payments.
- Figures-backed results to show: new customers, turnover, target achievement rate, even from an internship or first job.
Getting into sales in 5 steps
- 1
Pick a sector you understand
Food products, building materials, telecoms, insurance: selling what you know reassures both recruiter and customer.
- 2
Start with an entry post
Salesperson, customer adviser or inside sales are often open without experience and teach the job.
- 3
Build a results-driven CV
Every experience with a figure: « 25 new customers in 6 months », « target met 4 quarters out of 4 ». See our guide to writing a CV in Algeria.
- 4
Prepare the role play
Many sales interviews include a role play: « Sell me this product ». Prepare a short pitch: customer need, solution, price, close. See also job interview questions.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a degree to become a sales representative?
Not always. Many employers hire on personality, presentation and results. A business or technical degree helps for technical sales or key-account posts.
Does the employer have to pay the variable part?
If it is set out in the contract or in a written document from the employer with a calculation method, it is due once the conditions are met. Always get it in writing: basis, rate, targets, payment date.
Do commissions count for CNAS and pension?
Yes: bonuses and commissions tied to results are part of the salary (law 90-11, art. 81) and are included in the contribution base. Expense reimbursements are not.
What is the difference between a sales and a medical representative?
A medical representative is a specialised sales representative: they present medicines to doctors and pharmacists, which requires a science background. A sales representative sells products or services to business or individual customers.
Can I work in sales without a car?
Yes for inside sales, shop salesperson or customer adviser posts. For field work a licence is almost always required; the car is often provided by the employer.
How do I progress?
Area manager, team supervisor, key account manager, then sales director: progression follows results and the ability to manage people.
