Algiers is by far the country’s first job market: company and bank head offices, administrations, eastern industrial zones, western business districts, airport, port and universities. But the wilaya is large and congested: a job in Rouïba and a job in Chéraga are not lived the same way, especially at rush hour. This guide starts from the offers published on Chghol to show where the posts are and which profiles are wanted, then gives a six-step method. It follows the same model as our guide to finding a job in Oran.

Getting around: a criterion in itself
In Algiers, the commute can cost an hour or more morning and evening. The metro and the tram, running since 2011, serve the centre, the east (towards Bab Ezzouar and Dar El Beïda) and the south-east; suburban trains link the centre to the industrial east; city buses, cable cars and taxis complete the network. For the Rouïba, Réghaïa, Oued Smar or Birtouta industrial zones, many employers run a staff shuttle. Before accepting, make the trip once at rush hour and ask whether transport is provided.
Finding a job in Algiers in 6 steps
- 1
Pick a job and an area
An accountant or sales representative will find most posts in the centre and the west; an operator or technician in Rouïba, Oued Smar or Birtouta. Match it with where you live.
- 2
Register with ANEM
Register as a jobseeker at your municipality’s office or on the Wassit portal: employers file their offers there.
- 3
Prepare a CV per type of post
In such a competitive market, a targeted CV makes the difference: figures for sales, software and tax returns for accountants, safety and machines for industry. See our guide to writing a CV in Algeria.
- 4
Also target recruitment firms
In Algiers, part of the offers go through firms that recruit for several companies. A good contact with a firm can open several posts.
- 5
Use the university network
USTHB in Bab Ezzouar, the universities of Algiers 1, 2 and 3, the École nationale polytechnique and the École nationale supérieure d’informatique organise internships and company meetings.
