Oran is Algeria’s second city and the West’s main economic hub: port, international airport, industrial zones, the Arzew and Bethioua petrochemical complex, universities, trade and services. For a candidate, the difficulty is not a lack of jobs but how spread out they are: a post in Arzew or Oued Tlelat is not searched for like a post in the city centre. This guide starts from the offers actually published on Chghol to map the trades and areas, then gives a six-step method. It also works as a model for other wilayas.

Where the jobs are: the main business areas

The landmarks below describe the wilaya’s main employment areas. They are not exhaustive: they help you know where to look and what commute to plan.

Landmarks based on the known activities of each area and on the offers published on Chghol; this is not an official list of business areas.

Getting to work

The Oran tram, running since 2013, crosses the city from Es Sénia through the centre to Sidi Maârouf; city buses and shared taxis complete the network. For the Es Sénia, Hassi Ameur, Oued Tlelat or Arzew industrial zones, the trip can take over an hour at rush hour: many industrial employers run a staff shuttle, but not all. Ask at the interview, and include the cost of transport when you weigh the net salary.

Finding a job in Oran in 6 steps

  1. 1

Pick a job and an area

A sales representative will look in town, a technician towards Es Sénia, Hassi Ameur or Arzew. Decide how far you can travel every day, with or without a car.

  2. 2

    Register with ANEM Oran

Register as a jobseeker at the local office or on the Wassit portal: employers file their offers there and the agency points you to employment schemes.

  3. 3

Shape your CV for the area

For industry, highlight safety, shift work and the machines you know; for sales, figures and languages. See our guide to writing a CV in Algeria.

  4. 4

    Approach employers directly

Industrial zones, shopping centres, bank branches, corniche hotels: handing in a CV in person, at quiet hours, still works very well in Oran.

  5. 5

    Use the university network

Oran 1 Ahmed Ben Bella, Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed, USTO-MB and the École nationale polytechnique d’Oran organise internships and company meetings: an internship is often the way in.

  6. 6

    Be told first

Set a Chghol alert « job + Oran » and also read the most in-demand jobs in Algeria to widen your options.

A model for other wilayas

The same method works everywhere: spot the wilaya’s main employment areas, match them with the trades that have offers, measure commute times, then combine ANEM, direct approaches, the university network and alerts. On Chghol, each wilaya has its own offers page, filterable by job.

Frequently asked questions

Which jobs hire the most in Oran?

According to the offers published on Chghol on 1 November 2026: sales representative, production operator, accountant, maintenance technician, medical representative and customer adviser. This snapshot changes every week.

How do I work in the Arzew area?

Petrochemical posts often require technical training (electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, HSE) and safety clearances. Many go through subcontractors: follow their offers and ANEM’s, and beware of intermediaries who ask for money.

Must the employer provide transport?

It is not a general obligation, but many employers in industrial zones run a shuttle. Ask at the interview and include the commute in your decision.

I am a student in Oran: where do I start?

With an internship, through your university or an internship agreement, and with summer jobs on the corniche. Prepare a one-page CV and set alerts on the jobs you are interested in.

Are Oran offers published in French?

Mostly, yes. A CV in French, with an Arabic version when the post involves administration or customer service, covers most cases.

How do I avoid job scams?

Never pay for a job, check the company name, refuse to leave your original documents and prefer offers whose employer is identified.
